Supertrack Southwest results from 6/15
By Mike Jaxson
Who ever said the best man for the job is a
woman. Must have had Shelby Hinte in mind.
During the Junior Sportsman I main event, June 15 at Supertrack
Southwest, she held off Derek DeMartino, Shane
Smith and Cory Stogden to claim the
beginners class title trophy. "It felt great beating all the
boys," she said of her 12 lap main event victory. "The track was
nice and tacky and the go-kart was perfect thanks to Charlie
Graham." Graham is a veteran of the Las Cruces stock car wars
and this season he has been passing on his knowledge to the young charge.
In the Adult Briggs Medium class, Justin
Hopper lost the first heat race of the night to Sohn (spelling is
correct) Montano. However, he came back to win the main event edging
out Jarrett Yearwood and Eddie
Weardon.
In the Tecumseh class, Yearwood rebounded blowing
past Weardon and Jamie Nabors. Weardon has
been this year's version of Marathon Man at Supertrack Southwest. Along
with the Briggs Medium and the Tecumseh categories, he competes in the
Yamaha division. Two weeks ago, he was disqualified in the main
event along with newcomer Manny Frausto.
The rookie had the last word over the veteran last week. Once the checkered
flag went down, Frausto waved three fingers in the air in honor of NASCAR
legend Dale
Earnhardt who was killed earlier this year at the Daytona 500.
In the Junior Sportsman II division, Jared
Lacy from Deming took first place over Bryan
Stevens and Joseph Cuilty won the Junior
class main event.
The next race is for June 29, which is fireworks
night. July will be a busy month for the
go-kart track located at the Southern New Mexico Fairgrounds. July 13 is
Hooters of Las Cruces night and July 27 is Southern
New Mexico Speedway night. Racing action starts at 8 p.m. Mike is
the track announcer at Supertrack Southwest and at El Paso Speedway Park.
